Hypocrite:
1. a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religiousbeliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actuallypossess, especially a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.
2. a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, especially one who's private life, opinions, or statements belie his or her public statements.
This social affliction is one my number one, biggest pet peeves.
Throughout this past season of the Voice, I've questioned, aloud, the stylist responsible for dressing Christina Aguilera. I have no qualms with the girl putting on more than a few pounds. I'm no size 2 and I'm the last person ever to criticize a person for being heavy. But come on. Someone was paid a lot of money to "style" her for each and every show. At least I think so. I find it hard to believe anyone on any show of such caliber is given free choice to dress themselves. But, what do I know?
While her choices in attire each episode ranged from ridiculous to downright nauseating, it didn't become a real issue until the final night of performances for the remaining four contestants. She criticized Tony Lucca's song choice of Jay-Z's "99 Problems" as degrading to women. That's interesting.
What message are you portraying Ms. Aguilera when you wear these kinds of clothes?
Or pose like this for an album?
Or strut down a runway wearing this and tossing dollar bills?
Call me nuts. But, this sort of display of skin is far more damaging than a song that could well be perceived as a metaphor as Adam Levine pointed out.
Degrading to women is creating the perception of sleazy. Degrading to women is exposing yourself to the public as nothing more than a high priced whore.
What's even more obnoxious was the way she delivered her opinion with her snide, self-righteous attitude with her legs crossed. Only to shock all viewers when she stood up to reveal NO PANTS! What, pray-tell is uplifting to women with that kind of attire?
So, while I can see where she's coming from in abhorring Tony Lucca's song choice, perhaps a little reflection would have been in order before opening her mouth.
Or run like hell and find Jennifer Lopez's stylist. This is far more respectable. Sexy, stylish, and classy.
It's disgusting to me, when public figures jump on however small of a soapbox they're able to find, and spout off their opinions thinking nothing of how their own behavior may deflect. I'm not some whistle blower on Hollywood double standards, but good grief.
It's embarrassing to watch.
The whole season her T&A was all over a FAMILY show. She touted about being a mother. For some unknown reason she spoke as though she were the Dalai Lama of all things music. I'm no Grammy winner, but she's been off her game for some time now. No one likes a Know-It-All. While speaking as though she's a positive and influential person, her personal life (tabloids, mugshots, etc.) doesn't quite match up to what she wants us to think of her.
Someone gave her a heaping helping of ego (of $225,000.00+ per episode) and let the rhino run. I hope, for the sake of being able to stomach an entire episode next season, she doesn't get picked up. I don't think I can handle all of her....um...all, for another episode.
The tabloid websites and bloggers have been all over her shenanigans since Monday. She's earned the blasting. Hopefully the producers and creators of the show will take notice.
In the meantime, I'll somehow muddle through this media run world of actual female degradation. At least now it'll be sans Christina Aguilera's ass.
